Ty Wiebe
Grimshaw Huskies
Being on a last place club did not hurt Grimshaw Huskies’ centre Ty Wiebe from winning his first MVP award. Wiebe’s three first place votes earned him 19 points, six ahead of Darby Berg of Grande Prairie and Payton Lee of Dawson Creek, who tied for second in voting with 13 points each. |

Wiebe was third in NPHL scoring this year with 17-19-36 points and led the Huskies. The club scored a league-low 61 goals this season so Wiebe was in on 59.02 per cent of his team’s goals.
Wiebe is the first Husky to win MVP since Terry Houlder in 1995-96. Houlder, a four-time winner, also won in 1994-95, 1991-92 and 1989-90. Other Huskies to win MVP include Rob Szmata in 1988-89, Glen Paul in 1975-76, Sid Boyer in 1970-71, Norm Skrudland in 1966-67, Cliff Mein in 1960-61, and Tommy Grieg in 1959-60.
Wiebe received three first place votes to earn him Best Centre. His 18 points were five more than Brendan Baumgartner of the Manning Comets and Dallas Brochu of the Falher Pirates.
Wiebe is the first Grimshaw Best Centre winner since 2006-07 when Terry Houlder tied for the award. Houlder has won the award eight times. He also won four straight years from 1989-90 to 1992-93, in 1994-95 and 2003-04. Houlder won another Best Centre award in 2001-20 with the Grimshaw-Peace River Wild. Sheldon Szmata won the award in 2004-05, Rob Szmata in 1987-88 and 1988-89, and Glen Paul five times in 1975-76, 1977-78 to 1978-79, and 1984-85 and 1985-86. (Some years missing from records.). Kelly Bunn also won in 1980-81 and Bill McFaddyn in 1973-74.
