Athletics Slip By The Flyers
The Fort St John Flyers were back in Grande Prairie to meet the Grande Prairie Athletics Thursday January 31, 2019. Last night the Athletics won 5-4 in the North Peace Hockey League - NPHL Game Summary.

In the first period it was the Flyers getting the first goal as Jaxon Glass fired on in the net after 1:28, James Walsh assisting. Then Sam Brennan made it 2-0 for the Flyers after 13:36 a powerplay goal set up by Joey Massingham and Josh Bennett. When the period ended the Flyers were pretty happy with the 2-0 lead. Shots on goal: visitors 11 - home 17. In goal for the Flyers was Ty Gullickson and in goal for the Athletics was Tyler Boe. There were 2 minor penalties called with each team getting 1. Jaxon Glass (FSJ) interference 7:23, and Morgan Maclean (GP) tripping at 11:42. 

In the 2nd period the tables turned and the Athletics had luck going their way. Sheldon Hubbard scored (2-1) after 13:34, Andrew Buote assisting. Then Braden Crone tied the game 2-2 after 18:15, a powerplay goal with Same Bosek and Parker Sharp assisting. With less than a minute left in the period the Athletics took the lead 3-2 as Darion Fay found the back of the net with his shot, with Kelvin Neaustater assisting. Shots on goal: visitors 12 - home 16. There was 1 minor penalty called. Rylan Sideroff (FSJ) hooking at 17:56.

In the 3rd period the Flyers made this game interesting as Jaxon Glass got his 2nd of the night and tied the game 3-3 after 9:28, a powerplay goal with James Walsh and Sam Brennan assisting. Next it was the Athletics turn to grab the lead back 4-3 as Parker Sharp scored after 13:21, Sam Bosek and Lyndin Lewis getting the helpers The game was winding down when Morgan Maclean of the Athletics surprised everyone getting a short handed goal after 18:45 with Dennis Rix assisting. This was not an empty netter. The final goal came after 19:06, this time Rick Cleaver scored for the Flyers with Rylan Sideroff and Brandon Pfeil assisting. The clock ran out for the Flyers and they just ran out of steam as they had only 10 skaters coming to the game. The Athletics won it 5-4. Shots on goal: visitors 31 - home 42.
