Almost A Christmas Miracle!
The Manning Comets travelled to High Prairie for a match against the High Prairie Regals and as one Regals fan said “It was almost a Christmas Miracle” as the Regals came close to winning their first game of the season. Last night the Comets won this one 5-4 in overtime, Saturday December 22, 2018.
In the first period it was the Regals getting on the scoreboard as Kyle Olanski nailed it giving the Regals a 1-0 lead after 2:23, assist to Mikal Chalifoux VanDeLigt (AP). Then the Regals did it again after 9:36, this time Brandan McNabb scored with the help of Lawrence Anderson. Shortly after that it was 3-0 (9:54) as Hector Jr Lamouche scored with assists to Chris LeGresley and Mitch Price. Finally the Comets got on the scoreboard with the final goal of the period after 12:35. Josh Rutherford did it all alone and the period ended with the Regals leading 3-1. Shots on goal: visitors 18 - home 19. In goal for Manning Comets was Braden Gamble and in goal for the High Prairie Regals was Matt MacMinn. There were 2 minor penalties called with Austin Mood-Flagg (Regals) and Dalton Ducharme (Comets) each getting 2 for roughing after 8:59 of play.

In the 2nd period both goaltenders did their magic stopping all the pucks from getting in their nets for the entire period. The score remained 3-1 for the Regals. Shots on goal: visitors 13 - home 14. There was 1 minor penalty and it sent to High Prairie, Kyle Olansky who got 2 minutes for boarding after 5:31 of play.

In the 3rd period the Regals added to their lead (4-1) as Mitch Price got his goal with the help of Chris LeGresley after 3:08. But someone left the barn door open and the Comets broke out with 3 straight goals. Chev Wilson scored after 4:33 (4-2) with Matt Boyd and Adam Larsen assisting. It was Adam Larson’s turn closing the gap 4-3 after 10:39, assists to Chev Wilson and Tyler Dillman. Then Payton Proskurnak tied the game 4-4 after 11:30, unassisted. The Regals were in shock to see their best chances for a win disappear. Both teams played a bit more defensive hockey for the rest of the period not allowing any big mistakes. The period ended with the 4-4 tie, so Overtime was coming up next. Shots on goal: visitors 12 - home 8. There were 3 minor penalties called with Chris LeGresley (Regals) getting 2 minutes for a tripping call after 8:12. Kirk Ruecker of the Regals got 2 minutes for boarding after 16:16, and the Comets got caught with too many men on the ice after 17:03. The penalty was served by Adam Larsen.

OVERTIME: Each team only had 1 shot on goal. It didn’t take that long before the Comets scored to win the game. The hero was Chev Wilson assisted by Josh Rutherford. The game was over and the Comets won a squeaker 5-4.
